Our Comenius project turning 1 year old?! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!

As soon as we knew that our Comenius project had been accepted last year, we decided to create a blog for it. In fact our project blog “The School as the Integration Engine” has been working since the 23rd of July 2009 and it has proved to be a mirror of what we have done, are doing and are going to do for students,teachers and  the whole school community, city and beyond. In addition, our blog has also proved to be  the best and most flexible way of communication among the five countries that take part in our

project, i.e.  Gymnázium, Lipník nad Bečvou LIPNÍK NAD BEČVOU (The Czech Republic); Bródy Imre Gimnázium, Szakközépiskola. AJKA (Hungary), Gymnasium Ödeme, Lüneburg, (Germany), Collège Sismondi, GENEVA (Switzerland), IES Campanar. VALENCIA (Spain). 

We have worked hard but are happy with the results; the feedback we have got from our project seems to push the engine rolling farther and farther than we had expected. Thanks to everybody!!!!!

STUDENT'S SUMMERTIME BLUES

Well, I woke up this morning, with no school to go                 ☺
Yeah, not a word of warning, no Einstein, Listz, Van Gogh!      ♫
But worse no more Comenius,                                              ☼
What I gonna do, I did feel like a genius                                ♫
A bit heterogeneous but just like a John Doe!                        ☻

Most of our classrooms will be empty soon when the Summer holidays begin in the different countries of our project. And what a student said recently about her experience in Lipník  ("Despite our national differences, we're pretty much the same") is true for all of us, teachers and students.
This blog will be open to you, though, to offer you some information on our project, which was born last July the 23rd. From that date, we have had  EU and  Puzzle Competitions,  a Literary Contest, amazing mobilities to Ajka and to Lipník nad Bečvou, a videoconference, a Europost Day and many other activities but what we will all probably remember best is the feeling that we have real friends in another country, and that we have lots of things in common with them. Keep in touch!
And this is the homework for this Summer. There will be a prize In September for the best Scrap Book (sort of album with photos, realia, diary entries, tickets...) on the trips to Ajka and to Lipník. And if you are not one of the students who travelled to either of these two destinations, there will also be a prize for  the most creative Digital Scrap Book. Show off how good you are using your PC!

The Comenius family in the land of Comenius
Well, it's over, we know. However, we will not easily forget such a pleasant stay and positive experiences we all had in Lipník nad Bečvou. Behind us we have left four days of non-stop activities, all of them very interesting and we would like to thank the Gymnázium Lipník nad Bečvou for their great effort in the preparation of this mobility, which has been so successful. The students did not want to leave Lipník but all of us will continue in touch in this project we share. Five countries, five languages, one soul. Even the sun celebrated it shining brightly on our last day. Nashledanou!

WORLD BOOK DAY IN VALENCIA

At Valencia IES Campanar school, the celebrations of the World Book Day took place with different activities both on the 23rd and on the 30th . Last Friday, the Comenius Literary Contest Awards prepared for the 10 winning students as well as those for the Maths Puzzle Competition and EU Competition were presented during a concert which included poems recited and music played by our students.
In the photo above you can see (on the right) Pilar García, IES Campanar Head Teacher Deputy, who has just given Fernando Escuin, the Comenius Project Coordinator, the certificates previously mentioned so that they can travel to Lipník, and one of the IES Campanar students, Joan Josep Pla, receiving his Maths Puzzle Award, the book and the red rose.
During the whole of last week, all the literary contest entries from the different countries had a place in the exhibition held in the hall of the school to celebrate World Book Day.
"Per Sant Jordi, una rosa vermella i un llibre escrit entre tots" (On St George's Day -23rd April, a red rose and a book written by and among us all). Thank you everybody!
The Spanish party travelling to the Czech Republic also decided to send all the Comenius family a photo (below) looking forward to seeing them all.      

WORLD BOOK DAY IN LÜNEBURG

World Book Day -on the 23rd of April- was originally a Catalan tradition on the day of Sant Jordi (Saint George), people buying roses and also books from stalls and bookshops in most places in Spain now. In addition, it was a 23 of April when Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare and Garcilaso de la Vega, three of the most important writers in the world, died. That is why the UNESCO named this date "World Book Day"" with the enthusiastic approval of many other countries where it is also celebrated. Germany is an example.
What day could, therefore, be more suitable for the winners of the Literary Contest to be given their awards and prizes and, of course, a rose?

In the photo you see the two German winners of the Literary Competition Marie Bryzgalski (middle) and Danie Klein (right)together with the winner of the Mathematics Competition Luisa Wiechert (left). The aim of the Literary Contest was the creative handling of the question whether they see the EU countries as "brothers in arms, solidarity partners or war heroes" with regard to conflicts around the world, a key issue at the moment, given the problems in Afghanistan. The students have written texts (essays, poems, short stories, etc...) of between 150 and 300 words in English.
The 10 best entries participating in the project schools (two per country) were selected by the Comenius Project team in Spain and can be seen on the project blog www.schoolintegrationengine.blogspot.com/

COMENIUS PROJECT “Hero of War” LITERARY CONTEST
The high quality of all the finalists’ writings, which were submitted by the 5 schools, has made it really difficult to reach an agreement on which one is actually the best.
The topic “Hero of War” has been presented as a poem, letter, tale, short story, diary entry and essay. Interpretations have also been different, fighting soldiers, ghosts from the past, cancer, pollution, sexism or getting aware of our ancestors’ suffering, of personal experiences and of disabilities.
IES Campanar celebrates, as every year, UNESCO World Book Day on the 23rd of April with different activities and the names of the winners below will be read and a certificate will be issued with their respective awards. On the other hand, most of the writings by these or the other finalists are already being exhibited in the hall of the school for the students, teachers and parents to read and enjoy.
Thank you to everybody for your effort and collaboration.
