E.U. Competition # 5 (Final one of the Second Leg)

Hi, everybody! Three questions and a game this time.
Number 1: You want to create your own Europass CV. The EU helps you on which website?
Number 2: The EU also offers you a tool which can help you recognise which EU language a text has been written in? Again, where can you find this information?
Number 3: Short answers now like in trivia quizzes:
a)Which country has not fought in a war since 1815?
b)Name 4 island nations which are members of the EU.
c)Which capital city's name is Gaelic for Black Pool?
d)Bonn lies on the banks of which river?
e)In the Spanish city of Salamaca students try to spot a frog on the university building facade. Why?
f)What nationality was the composer Liszt?
h)In which European capital city can you find the most famous astronomical clock?
Now the game: Follow the instructions mentally. Don't cheat. Let's see how good you are.
-Think of a number from 2 to 10
-Multiply it by 9
-Add the two numbers of your total together (for example, if the answer is 23, then  2+3)
-Take away 5
-If your answer is 1, it equals A, if it is 2, it equals B, 3 equals C , 4 equals D, etc....
-Think of a country in Europe beginning with that letter.
-Think of an animal, not a bird or a fish that begins with the second letter of that country.
-Think of the colour of your animal.
Well, it's always fun to think of grey elephants in Denmark, isn't it?
Hope you liked it.

PUZZLE#5 SECOND LEG (from 11th of March to the 25th of March 2010)

With this Puzzle ends the Second Leg.

The following figure, enclosed by three semicircles tangent among them on their extremes is called "arbelos", which means “shoemaker's knife” in Greek, and this term is used because the shaded area in the figure below resembles the blade of a knife used by ancient cobblers. Archimedes himself is believed to have been the first mathematician to study the mathematical properties of this figure. Show that its area is the same as the area of the circle which has as diameter segment BD, perpendicular to diameter CA.

SOLUTION

We've received  correct solutions from:

Zsofia Zentai (Hungary)

Reka Vass (Hungary)

Maté Fenyvesi (Hungary)

EUROPEAN UNION COMPETITION #4 (Second Leg)

Since today's questions are so short and easy, there will be 4 instead of 3. Ready, steady, go!
4.-You already know about the first one so it's not too difficult. What are the nationalities of these four famous people from the past? -Comenius     -Grundtvig     -Leonardo     -Erasmus
3.- ' eu trio.es/trio.be/trio.hu'  is not the name of a musical group taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest. What is it then?
2.- The Second Summit for Human Rights, Tolerance and Democracy will be held from the 8th to the 10th of March 2010 in which European city?
1.- This one is about the Treaty of Lisbon. When did it enter into force in the EU zone?
Lots of luck!. Your answers, as usual, can be submitted to iescampanar09@gmail.com
SOLUTION:
Once again Strang Zsanett, from Ajka (Hungary), got the correct answers the first. Congratulations!

- Comenius was Czech, Grundtvig was Danish, Leonardo was Italian and Erasmus was Dutch.
- 'eu  trio.es/trio.be/trio.hu' refers to the present Presidency of the European Union .
-The Second Summit for Human Rights, Tolerance and Democracy was held from the 8th to the 10th of  March 2010 in Geneva.
